WSST Conference 2020 Canceled!
The COVID-19 has created an unusual and life-threatening situation. The Executive Committee of the WSST Board unanimously decided to cancel our 2020 WSST conference because of the myriad cancellations and policies implemented for individuals regarding travel restrictions. All these restrictions are based upon sound recommendations from the Governor’s office, the CDC, and the WHO. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary Andrea Palm recommended Thursday (March 12, 2020) to cancel any events of more than 250 people to help contain the spread of the virus.
We will commence with refunding registration and associated conference fees in a short while. This will take time as I have never done something of this magnitude before. Please be patient. Thank you for understanding.

Chemical Reactions: Developing a Prototype

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
Participants investigate how chemical energy can be transformed via a chemical process into electrical energy. After building a prototype wet cell battery, participants brainstorm improvements and build, test, and evaluate a new prototype to meet a set of predetermined criteria within specified constraints. This new battery will need to spin faster and for a minimum of five minutes. Participants build, test, and evaulate the new protypes. The activity builds towards NGSS MS.PS.1-6, MS.ETS.1-3, and MS.ETS.1-4. CCC's are Energy and Matter. SEP's are Constructing Explanations and Design Solutions. DCI's are Chemical Reactions, Developing possible Solutions, and Optimizing the Design solution. All hands on materials to construct the batteries are provided as take home items.
